Making Sense Of The Supreme Court Ruling

On June 28, 2012, the Supreme Court ruled that the health care reform law (Affordable Care Act), passed by Congress in 2010, is constitutional and remains the law of the land. Health Care Reform Law Provisions & Implementation

On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed into law the bitterly contested health care reform bill, The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). PPACA represents the largest change to the health care system in the United States since the passage of Medicare in 1964 and Medicaid in 1965. Most of the provisions in the law will not go into effect until January 1, 2014. Other provisions take effect during the interim. The next few years of the development of policies to implement the new law are critical. IDF is monitoring the new policies and where necessary will be raising the voice of the primary immunodeficiency diseases (PIDD) patient community to make sure that PIDD “zebras” are not left out in the cold.

Periodically, IDF will post on this page, analyses of various provisions and the status of implementation. Some of the posted provisions, such as High Risk Pools, directly affect the PIDD the community more than others. But, all of the provisions affect everyone. As things change, the postings will reflect the changes.

Each posting contains a short summary, a status update, next steps, links to other sources of information, a long summary and legislative text.
