Changing Lives for Patients Each Day – IDF Retreat in Milwaukee Receives Rave Reviews

“IDF is changing the lives for patients each day,” wrote one patient after the Immune Deficiency Foundation Retreat in Milwaukee, WI, held June 22-24.

And that kind of feedback humbles those involved with pulling off the weekend event for more than 200 patients and family members. Medical experts presented helpful information to the attendees who traveled to Milwaukee from 21 different states. Sessions and presenters included:

  • The Immune System and Primary Immunodeficiency, Managing Lung Issues
Jack Routes, MD of Medical College of Wisconsin
  • Immunological Tests: What Do They Mean?
James Gern, MD of University of Wisconsin School of Medicine
  • Autoimmune Issues and Primary Immunodeficiency
James Verbsky, MD, PhD of Medical College of Wisconsin
  • Treatment Options for Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases
Kristin Epland, FNP-C and Jason Raasch, MD of Midwest Immunology Clinic
  • Managing Sinus Issues
    Jason Raasch, MD
  • Health Insurance:  Protecting Access to Care
Vlasta Hakes,  Associate Director, Government and Public Affairs of Grifols Inc.
Lynne Szott, RN, CCM, Senior Manager, Reimbursement of CSL Behring
  • Living Life to the Fullest with Primary Immunodeficiency
Donna Marie Meszaros, PhD of Abaris Behavioral Health & Apex Behavioral Health Western Wayne

Patients were able to pose questions to these experts, and many patients appreciated those sessions. One patient commented, “There is always so much useful information! I have many questions for my son’s doctor. Thank you for making this possible!”

Parents and their children benefitted from the retreat. Kids took part in the youth program specifically designed to educate and entertain young people living with primary immunodeficiency diseases. From infants to teens, there was something throughout the weekend for kids of all ages.

The attendees enjoyed their free time together as well, making new friends and enjoying the overall event. Friday night IDF volunteer Bill Hindin provided musical entertainment, and the following evening audiences were mystified by David Seebach’s Wonders of Magic.

Thank you to all who made the IDF Retreat in Milwaukee a success and helped change patients' lives!
