IDF Volunteer Bears the Heat to Promote Awareness

IDF Volunteer Joanna Tierno and the Burnell Family

Despite the summer heat hitting the East Coast, IDF Volunteer and Staten Island resident Joanna Tierno is promoting awareness of primary immunodeficiency (PI). She distributed materials July 13 and 14 in Midland Beach for the Back to the Beach Celebration of Summer. The Burnell Family, who has also been affected by PI, came and helped man the table with Joanna.

The event attracts more than 50,000 visitors. In addition to giving out information, Joanna gave an interview to a cable TV station and spoke with others living with PI.

To further promote awareness, Joanna participated in a NY Blood Center advertising campaign (read more about that here). At the Back to the Beach event, she met a fellow campaign participant, who was also featured in the ad.

In addition to all this, Joanna participated in a fashion show, held July 10, where she was able to distribute IDF materials.

Thank you for all your hard work, Joanna! Stay cool!
