Just Peachy in Atlanta – IDF Hosts Patient Education Meeting

IDF Advocacy Volunteer Sheryl Vrieze spoke at the IDF Patient Education Meeting in Atlanta, GA July 14.

Representatives from the Immune Deficiency Foundation traveled to Atlanta, GA July 14 for an IDF Patient Education Meeting. Fifty patients and family members attended to hear about IDF’s resources, learn from medical experts and connect with others in the peach state.

Lisa Kobrynski, MD, MPH of Emory Children’s Center discussed general care of primary immunodeficiency diseases. Howard Silk, MD of Atlanta Allergy & Asthma Clinic spoke about managing sinus issues. Attendees felt both presentations were helpful, and they appreciated the opportunity to pose questions directly to the doctors afterwards.

Patients and families especially enjoyed hearing the inspiring story of IDF Advocacy Volunteer Sheryl Vrieze. She shared her recent experience with her insurance company instituting a fail first formulary and how, with the help of IDF, she fought back and won. From this experience, she has developed a strong resolve to tell her story and continue to advocate for the rights of the primary immunodeficiency community.

Thank you to those who attended! Special thanks to Dr. Kobrynski, Dr. Silk and Sheryl!
