Primary Immunodeficiency Conference offers education, connection

September 20, 2022

This year’s Primary Immunodeficiency Conference offers educational sessions from medical experts and patients, the opportunity for in-person connection in select cities, and even a magic show!

TikTok influencer Ilana Jacqueline kicks off the conference online Thursday, October 6 at 4 p.m. ET (1 p.m. PT). She will be speaking with IDF CEO and President Jorey Berry about her struggle to receive a diagnosis and living with hypogammaglobulinemia. Later that evening (8 p.m. ET, 5 p.m. PT), join us for a family-friendly online mindreading magic show featuring Joshua Seth, best known as the voice of Tai from Digimon.

Friday, October 7 features virtual sessions organized into three different tracks starting at 10 a.m. ET (7 a.m. PT).

  • The “KNOW Your Diagnosis” track focuses on in-depth information on specific PI diagnoses, such as common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) and hyper IgM syndromes, from leading medical experts.
  • The “UNDERSTAND the Science” track provides information on PI-related medical topics, such as participating in clinical studies, family planning, and genetic testing.
  • The “NAVIGATE the Journey” track centers on day-to-day life as a person with PI and includes sessions on fatigue, mental health, and health insurance.

The “Heroes of the Herd” awards celebration wraps up the day at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT).

While the first two days are entirely virtual, you can join others to watch Saturday’s sessions in person in Cerritos, CA, Linthicum, MD, or Chicago, IL. Saturday’s sessions include a panel on the future of COVID-19 featuring Dr. Adi Gundlapalli from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and a panel discussion on what it means to be immunocompromised featuring patient voices from within and beyond the PI community. COVID-19 safety protocols, including proof of vaccination (or a negative COVID-19 test) and masking, will apply at all three locations.

For the first time ever, the Walk for PI fundraiser is part of the conference! Each in-person location will host a Walk before the viewing party begins, and the virtual Coast to Coast Walk will also take place on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 12:30 p.m. ET (9:30 a.m. PT). Registration for walks is separate from conference registration, so be sure to complete both.
