People facing the diagnosis of a primary immunodeficiency disease (PI) turn to the Immune Deficiency Foundation (IDF), often finding us by searching online. Healthcare professionals caring for people with PI recommend IDF as the authoritative resource and encourage their patients to contact us. No matter how someone finds us, IDF remains steadfast in our commitment to them and to future generations affected by these rare, chronic disorders.

As the national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the diagnosis, treatment and quality of life of people with PI through advocacy, education and research, IDF has developed programs that impact patients’ lives. Since 1980, people with PI and their families have relied on IDF to fulfill basic needs of finding information and support, and the demand for IDF resources increases each year. For example, in 2011 we received 1,492 requests for education and assistance, and in 2018 we responded to more than 9,700 requests. In 2011, we distributed over 80,000 IDF educational materials in response to requests from patients and healthcare professionals, as well as those given out at IDF meetings and events. In 2018, nearly 300,000 educational materials were distributed.

Through IDF educational programs and materials, people with PI and their families learn about their diagnoses, treatment options, options for dealing with health insurance obstacles and more. They gain insight on life management issues, and they can find solace and belonging from fellow patients and family members. Perhaps most importantly, IDF empowers those affected by PI to learn and to advocate for themselves.

IDF serves as the voice of the PI community. People find us and stay connected to IDF because we help them navigate through life—from diagnosis and initial treatment to the challenges that often follow. This enduring relationship allows IDF to have unparalleled connection to people with PI, but we know there are more people living with PI who are not yet connected to us. With that in mind, we seek to reach more people with PI by augmenting our robust social media presence and organic online interactions with strategic paid advertising. In addition, through public awareness initiatives and media outreach, we work to ensure more people know about PI and hear the stories of our community.

Our legacy of promoting healthcare legislation and policies that positively affect people with PI continues and only strengthens as the barriers the PI community must overcome rapidly increase and become more complex. IDF leads, supports and overall helps advance patient-centered research of PI. In collaboration with leading immunologists and clinicians around the world, we develop medical programs and publications that help enhance the understanding of PI and ultimately helps improve diagnosis and treatment. IDF maintains trusted relationships with partner organizations that provide products and services to the community and/or align with our mission to enhance the lives of those affected by rare diseases. Often we are the primary link to people living with PI for those organizations. In all we do, IDF makes the patient voice heard where it needs to be heard.

Generous supporters enable us to sustain our efforts, to broaden our scope and to prepare for the future of the PI community. The following details our opportunities for support:
