The more you understand about primary immunodeficiency (PI), the better you can live with the disease or support others in your life with PI. Learn more about PI, including the various diagnoses and treatment options.
Living with primary immunodeficiency (PI) can be challenging, but you’re not alone—many people with PI lead full and active lives. With the right support and resources, you can, too.
Be a hero for those with PI. Change lives by promoting primary immunodeficiency (PI) awareness and taking action in your community through advocacy, donating, volunteering, or fundraising.
Whether you’re a clinician, researcher, or an individual with primary immunodeficiency (PI), IDF has resources to help you advance the field. Get details on surveys, grants, and clinical trials.
Robert Cathcart was diagnosed with a PI in 2009. Shortly after receiving his diagnosis, his mother, Lucinda, discovered IDF Walk for PI. Lucinda states, “In the beginning, when I found out about the walks, I felt it would be a great way to help shift our focus on my son’s primary immunodeficiency (PI) from being a burden that he will have to carry to being an opportunity to help others that have the same health challenges as he has.”
Since then, Lucinda, Alan (father of Robert), and Robert come together each year for IDF Walk for PI – Boston and bring together their dream team of family and friends called “The Tortoise and the Zebra.” Over the years, their team has grown with new friends and classmates showing their support for Robert and the common goal of helping those affected by PI. The team is proud to have raised over $1,000 each year, including $3,880 for IDF Walk for PI 2019 knowing the funds are helping provide support to families like theirs, and to the medical providers working in the field who are coming up with better treatments for those affected by PI.
Throughout the years, the event has created a great experience for Robert and his family which reinforced the idea in Robert that he will never walk alone.
We thank Robert and the whole Cathcart family for providing the support that they do through their fundraising efforts. If you are inspired by Robert and Lucinda, please consider joining them in participating in IDF Walk for PI or by donating here. Make sure to tune in next month to learn about another great member of our IDF community.
