Chris Hardnick knows all too well what it’s like to support and live with someone who has a primary immunodeficiency (PI). In 1990, Chris’s son, Christopher Charles Hardnick - also known as “Nick,” was 18 months old when he was diagnosed with x-linked agammaglobulinemia (XLA). Over the years Nick battled chronic sinusitis and bronchitis due to his weakened immune system. Unfortunately, Nick received his angel wings on January 2, 2019. Following Nick’s passing, Chris developed a nonprofit organization called Patriots 4 Families, which is committed to helping military and civilian families navigate through these rare and chronic disorders.
In honor of Nick, Chris hosted the first Patriots 4 Families golf tournament with the goal of making a generous donation to a few military families, veterans, and the Immune Deficiency Foundation (IDF). The tournament was held on September 18 at the Medal of Honor Golf Club at Quantico, Virginia, and welcomed nearly 100 golfers.
The event was a huge success allowing Patriots 4 Families to raise a total of $13,000 thanks to the sponsors and individuals who provided financial support. Before Nick’s passing, the Hardnick family attended IDF events and utilized information and resources provided by IDF to help navigate through Nick’s diagnosis. To give back, the Hardnick’s donated $2,500 from the golf tournament to help IDF continue its mission of improving the diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life of people affected by PI.
Patriots 4 Families is excited to host their annual golf tournament again in September 2021 and hopes to continue to provide support for the PI community.
