Doctor serves the PI community with Spanish COVID-19 video updates

April 22, 2020

The Immune Deficiency Foundation (IDF) is expanding its audience and reach more than ever before thanks to a generous member of the IDF Physician Advisory Committee, Dr. Vivian Hernandez-Trujillo.

Dr. Hernandez-Trujillo serves as the medical director of the Division of Allergy & Immunology at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, while also treating patients at the Allergy and Immunology Care Center of South Florida office in Miami Lakes. On top of this, she is actively involved in research studies regarding primary immunodeficiency (PI) and has been a recipient of numerous awards for her dedication, academic achievement, and accomplishments.

As if this impressive, bilingual physician didn’t have enough on her plate, she has decided to be kind enough to translate IDF COVID-19 video updates from English to Spanish. As an organization, we recognize that there is a lack of information regarding COIVD-19 to the Spanish-speaking community. After some discussion of how we could best serve this community, we reached out to Dr. Hernandez-Trujillo for her help. She eagerly agreed to take the time to translate and record our most up-to-date COVID-19 reports to help serve more individuals seeking information about COVID-19. Here are the videos she has created to date, with most recent listed first:

“It’s always an honor and pleasure to collaborate with IDF and to give back to the community.  Over the years, I have partnered with IDF in order to increase awareness of PI disorders.  Getting involved and giving back is part of my responsibility as an Immunologist, especially during this time of uncertainty,” explained Dr. Hernandez-Trujillo. “My work in Hispanic outreach has been an important part of my mission, as a physician, to ensure that resources are available to patients and families in Spanish.”

Dr. Hernandez-Trujillo’s generosity, especially when her time is so limited, has helped to expand IDF’s message to underserved populations nationally - and even globally. As an organization, we are immensely grateful for her selfless act of kindness.
