In this letter, the foundation urges Senate appropriators not to enact steep cuts to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and, in particular, to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) currently in the FY 2026 proposed federal budget. NIAID is the 'home' of primary immunodeficiency (PI) research at the NIH and funds critical grants on novel treatments and diagnostics for people with PI. Slashing NIAID funding will not only halt progress but will waste the federal dollars already invested in this research.
